Q. What kind of company is LPTech Co., Ltd.?
A. Founded in February last year, LPTech Co., Ltd. operates three major business categories related to factory automation: distribution, manufacturing, and platforms.
More specifically, the company is engaged in the distribution of FA components—key elements of automation and smart factories—as well as the development of FA-related platforms. In addition, LPTech Co., Ltd. develops and manufactures automation equipment such as grippers. Alongside these activities, the company also provides technical support services, including smart factory consulting and training.

Q. Could you introduce your recently developed in-house gripper?
A. In general, conventional grippers perform gripping operations based on pre-programmed settings tailored to the specific workpiece being handled. This approach is effective for mass production of a limited variety of products. However, when handling multiple products with different shapes and sizes, the teaching process becomes increasingly complex, making it difficult to respond flexibly to process changes.

In conventional production processes for low-volume, high-mix manufacturing, these challenges have typically been addressed by using grippers that detect contact pressure when each finger touches the workpiece and control torque accordingly. However, this approach requires the installation of pressure sensors, torque sensors, and other components on each gripper finger, which significantly increases the overall cost of the gripper.

LPTech Co., Ltd. has developed a gripper that overcomes these limitations based on its patented technology. The solution has already been validated through supply to a well-known domestic comprehensive food company and has also been delivered for welding robot automation applications. In addition, LPTech Co., Ltd. is currently engaged in meaningful discussions with overseas customers in India, Singapore, China, and Malaysia.

Q. What are the differences compared to conventional sensor-based approaches?

A. The gripper we are currently supplying is a four-finger type. In general, to achieve flexible handling with a four-finger gripper, each finger must be controlled individually in terms of force. However, the gripper developed by LPTech Co., Ltd. was designed by shifting the focus away from individual finger control and toward the gripper’s core function—gripping itself.

Unlike conventional gripper structures, which require additional sensors as the number of fingers increases, our solution enables flexible handling by mounting a separate auxiliary device incorporating patented technology on the gripper wrist. When any finger comes into contact with the workpiece, this auxiliary device detects the workpiece and initiates the handling operation. Although this approach requires highly precise torque control technology, it delivers significant cost savings compared to methods that rely on installing sensors on each individual finger.

Q. What motivated you to develop your own gripper?

A. LPTech Co., Ltd. supplies a wide range of products to the domestic factory automation industry, from FA components—such as servo motors and drives, cam racks & roller pinions, belts, pulleys, sensors, and fans—to industrial robots from various global brands. In the case of industrial robots, system integration and application capabilities are particularly critical. From this perspective, we decided to develop our own gripper in order to secure proprietary application-level technology.

For the newly developed gripper, detailed product design was carried out based on the end user’s requested concept. This project represents a case in which a more cost-effective and practical application was realized by leveraging LPTech Co., Ltd.’s core patented technology—sensorless torque control.

Q. What is LPTech Co., Ltd.’s key competitive strength as a company?

A. Our greatest competitive advantage lies in our organizational structure that enables fast decision-making, allowing us to respond quickly to customer requests. For example, in our gripper business unit, most products are manufactured and delivered as customized solutions tailored to each customer’s application. As a result, the overall lead time—from application concept discussions and design to development, production, testing, and delivery—is remarkably short.

LPTech Co., Ltd.’s efficient organizational structure is rooted in a flexible working environment. For instance, we do not impose rigid constraints on working hours, encouraging employees to adjust their schedules flexibly based on their level of focus and productivity. Rather than enforcing a top-down work culture, we foster an internal environment that enables each team member to maximize their work efficiency.

Q. Does LPTech Co., Ltd. have a differentiated marketing strategy?

A. Since the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the concept of the smart factory has gained significant attention in the manufacturing industry. However, in practice, many companies still find it difficult to fully realize its benefits on the shop floor. In particular, smart factory education has largely been led by upper-level software providers specializing in systems such as MES and ERP, leaving many manufacturers uncertain about how to implement smart factories at the field level.

In response, drawing on more than 14 years of experience in factory automation, LPTech Co., Ltd. has been actively conducting lectures and training programs related to smart factories. Through these initiatives, we help field-oriented manufacturers understand how to adopt smart factory concepts in practice, while also providing consulting on the steps required to further advance and upgrade their own production facilities.

Q. What are your future plans?

A. We plan to launch a compact version of our newly developed gripper in the near future, which is expected to achieve an approximately 80% reduction in size while maintaining the same payload capacity.

In addition, once the patent application for our upcoming platform is completed, we plan to move forward with full-scale sales and marketing activities. Separately, we are also preparing to expand our overseas export business by leveraging global distribution platforms such as Amazon. A dedicated team is currently being formed for this initiative, with full-scale operations expected to begin in April of this year.
